W W hen we hear the names of elite baseball players such as Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco, Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, and others who have been the alleged users of PEDs (performance enhancing drugs), many baseball fans get angry. Many claim that they are cheating. They are cheating if the accusations are true; as the law states, they cannot use PEDs. However, until recently the rules of baseball precluded their use. When we discuss forecasters and demand planners, the parallel analogy to the PED for baseball players is POS- based forecasting technique, which can be regarded as a Performance Enhancing Technique (PET) in forecasting.
