S&OP/IBP has come a long way since its invention in the 1980s as a process to align sales and manufacturing volumes. But while the early process steps are often well understood, Optimization, which is the process step before the Executive S&OP/IBP meeting, is a mystery to many people. This article explains some of the challenges involved in getting this part of the process right.
