THE FORECASTING COMMUNITY IN THE 21ST CENTURY: SOME THOUGHTS & OBSERVATIONS By Jack Malehorn It is indeed a pleasure to be a part of this prestigious gathering. Of course, I was delighted when Dr. Jain called and invited me to participate. However, after accepting, I suddenly realized, “What was I going to talk about?” Not that I am totally foreign to the topic, as you can see from my publications and previous work experience. However, it has been awhile since I have dabbled in this particular area. And so I examined the agenda and thought that there were some excellent topics being covered of a particularly high caliber. And so I derived today’s topic: “The Forecasting Community in the 21st Century: Some Thoughts and Observations”. And of course, with the secret hope that I wouldn’t be the entertainment portion of such a fine Conference.
